No – our tags are all automatically generated and they intentionally look like random codes, rather than words.

This is so that Finders will understand quickly what the tag is for.

We may in future allow you to generate a new tag yourself, which will have the effect of cancelling your old tag.

You can’t pick your own tag – they’re all generated.

If you need to cancel your old tag, we’ll be happy to generate a new one for you -just submit your request via the Support page in your account.

To close your WhosMyOwner account, just log into PayPal and cancel your subscription. You won’t be charged again.

PayPal will notify us, and we’ll immediately switch off Finder Reports on your account. We have an automated system that removes unsubscribed accounts after 30 days. So if you change your min, log back in and start a new subscription. If it’s been 30 days you can just create a new account.

Please note that if you create a new account, you’ll receive a different tag; your original tag is deleted as well as your account.

Click the Thank Finder link in your account, and follow the instructions.

You can’t reply directly unless the Finder entered some contact details in the message, which you’ll have in an email.

We will reply on your behalf if you click the Reply link in your Finder report email or text.  This opens a page where you can enter a message, and we’ll send it by email to the sender without revealing your details to them, or theirs to you.  This is done for your (and their) safety and privacy.

We’ll be sorry to see you go, but you probably mean what happens to your account?

When an account is closed at your request, we will turn off Finder reports (you won’t get email or text notifications any more).  Your tag will be freed up, and may eventually be assigned to someone else.

If your account expires (you stop renewing it every year), we archive it for 90 days, then delete it.   In the archived state, you won’t receive Finder reports, and you can’t log in.  You can reinstate simply by paying your annual renewal fee.  If we receive a finder report for your account while it’s archived, we notify you by email to give you the opportunity to reinstate your account.

Say the Police lost property team for the T in the Park festival in Scotland:
Typically, numbers of mobile phones, wallets purses, rucksacks, holdalls, suitcases, tents and a variety of clothing find their way to the property office. Less typically, furry toy snakes, false teeth and a steak slice have been lodged with staff.
